This is Our Campaign
Today is a new day. Welcome to the official campaign site for Jason Wolsztyniak's bid for Grand Valley Town Council. This website will be your source for all relevant information including upcoming events, information on the issues, history and background. Please feel free to browse the website, where you will find all you need to know surrounding my bid for Grand Valley Town Council and how I intend to bring a fresh and unifying perspective to OUR town!
Campaign
My platform is simple. I want to work on us.
I love this town. I want to live here forever. I love that we still wave to each other. I love how we come together when times are tough. I love the charm that stems from our deep roots. I love that we're growing.

Its not about me, though. Its about us. I want to know whats important to you. I want to know whats important to your neighbour.

No outrageous promises. No pledges that are impossible to fulfill.

Throughout my campaign we will discuss many topics. I will knock on doors to chat about you, me and our vision for the town. We can chat on social media about you, me and our vision for the town. Based on your feedback the talking points will change, but, one thing will remain constant - this is about us.

This is a divisive time in our history - globally, nationally and locally. My approach will be to work with council to reach fair and equitable decisions that are fiscally, ethically and environmentally responsible. I will work in unison with council to reach decisions that are mutually beneficial for the town, its residents and their businesses.

I will be updating this website regularly to add the feedback I get from you so we can speak to the issues that are important to you together.

A fresh perspective, because this is about us.
Background
I was born in Sudbury, ON and was raised in a small town north of the city called Val Therese. In my youth, there wasn't a day I didn't spend outside - rain or shine. My friends and I spent a lot of our time riding our bikes to one of the 100's of lakes to go fishing and swimming. This was the foundation for my eventual career path. I wanted to be a part of the world that helped maintain our pristine lakes and tributaries.

Employment was tough up North when we were young. With dozens of my peers applying for the same dish-washing and restaurant jobs, you had to either be lucky to get one, or, stand out. I learned early that no-one would was going to hand me anything - I had to earn it. I had targeted an opening that I wanted - it was close to home and the hours were perfect. I brought a resume everyday, EVERYDAY. Ultimately, this worked and I got my first job. I was set. Before my probation period was over, I was let go. Another hard lesson - standing out wasn't enough. With dozens of people wanting my job, hard work was going to be needed to keep what I wanted. From then on, I vowed to be the hardest working person possible. Quick to learn, tough to replace.
Just before my last year of high-school, my family moved to Brampton and that's where I learned what it was like to live in the big city. I was captivated with the new options for Friday and Saturday nights and the new food options seemed endless. The diversity was outstanding. I really enjoyed my time there, but, I always said I wanted to move back "home". While living there I attended Sheridan College and became a Chemical Technician with a focus on Environmental.

Soon after, I got my first career job - once again, having to compete with many qualified individuals for entry level positions because it was the recession of 2008. Back to the old school, targeted a job, and brought them a resume everyday. Lo and behold, it worked.

I had gotten my first career job in the water and wastewater industry, doing my part making sure our lakes and rivers stayed pristine. I started out travelling the country servicing engineered systems at mostly municipal water and wastewater plants. I put my time in, worked hard and ascended the ranks. I spent a few years as a project manager and worked diligently with municipalities and consultants on major upgrades and new construction. I managed multiple vendors and fabricators in order to meet tight deadlines. Through attrition, I landed my current position and it truly is my calling. I am a Technical Sales Representative and I now sell engineered systems to many markets - Alternative Energy, Mining, Oil and Gas and Environmental. I love it. Over the years I have learned to structure fair and equitable deals both with vendors and my customers. I've gotten good at it if i do say so myself.

In 2010, while still living in Brampton, I met my wife Kathryn. My rock. We have two beautiful girls, Madison and Kaley. My family is my world.

Kathryn and I have had 100's of conversations along the way about moving back up North, while it was never off the table, I loathed the words "maybe one day". I loathed it because I knew it wasn't going to happen. As much as I was ok with the life a major metropolitan offered, the true satisfaction of my job and the adoration I have for my family - something was missing. I missed the short trips to clean and quiet lakes. I missed the cohesiveness of a small town. I wanted my daughters to be able to play outside the way I did.

We moved "North" to Orangeville and it was great, but, not quite right for us. Something was still missing. After 4 years we found an old rental property here in town. It was instant - we were home. Immediately we began immersing ourselves in the town. Fall fairs, the sesquicentennial, rodeos and more. I coach one of the local Timbits soccer teams and now, I am looking to help serve the community on council.

In a perfect world, we could preserve our town in a bottle and maintain it exactly how it is. After all, the status quo is why everyone that experiences our town wants to live here. In today's world, however, growth is inevitable. I am of the belief that growth is also positive. I feel that through teamwork, community input and a cohesive council, we can achieve growth and diversify our amenities, all the while maintaining our small town feel.

This is my story, a fresh perspective.
